Voice mode
Voice chat with strangers
Most of what makes a conversation feel real survives without a camera. Voice mode is the underused middle ground — and it never asks to see you.
What each mode asks of you
Video asks for
- Your face
- Your room, and whatever is behind you
- Decent light
- A working camera the browser can reach
Voice asks for
- A microphone
- Nothing else
That asymmetry is the whole argument. Voice costs you one permission and no self-consciousness.
What you keep that text loses
Tone
Whether something was a joke. Text has spent twenty years inventing punctuation to carry this and still cannot.
Timing
The half-second before someone answers is information. In text it is indistinguishable from someone getting a drink.
Presence
You can tell a person is actually there, listening. In text you are reading an empty box and guessing.
Three things worth knowing
The camera prompt never appears
Not deferred, not dismissed — never issued. Voice mode does not request camera access at any point, so there is nothing to block and nothing to undo later in your browser settings.
Same matching, same skip
One person at a time, random, with Next available whenever you want it. The mode changes what is transmitted, not how matching behaves.
It is not the free tier
Being clear about this: voice rounds draw on your free rounds and then on coins, the same as video. The mode that costs nothing to run is text.
